Comment Marketing and Blog Question
« on: June 08, 2010, 12:32:30 AM »
Kitty I reread your update of your free marketing book. Great book by the way I highly recommend it.

Do you (or anyone else reading this) feel it promotes more visitors if your comment links to a bog or does it matter if it's a static html sales page.

While I'm at it, which do you think is better for a sales page, a bog or a static html page. Both with your own domain naturally I'm not talking about a free site

Hi Rick,

I'm glad you like the free website traffic book and updates.

As to your question about blogs verses static html pages:

I really can't put a finger on why - but in my experience - static html pages out perform blogs in every sense.

I have noticed that some blogs shoot straight to the first page of Google search for several days, then seem to disappear to the murky depths of page 60 or worse.

Whereas static html pages that get to the first page of Google stay there - they may move from 1st to 4th then to 2nd but they stay within around six positions consistently for years.

Like I said at the outset I can only guess why this happens. Probably because blogs like wordpress have inbuilt optimization to start with which relies on some sort of constant maintenance to keep it viable.

As you have to optimize static html pages yourself it is probably more relevant to your content and is favored by Google.

It is a good question Rick and I am sorry that I can not give a more concise answer - perhaps someone else can answer this question here.

Perhaps it would be a good question to put to Matt Cutts.

Cheers,

Kitty.

Thanks Kitty

Yeah weird, how about the other part of my inquiry? Is it better to use a blog link when you comment on a blog or should that be a static page as well?

Rick

That depends on where your information pertinent to the blog post can be found.

For instance if you answer a question in a blog and you have posted information on your own blog that will be useful to the audience then by all means point the readers to your on-topic blog post - make sure your blog post is linked to your static html site.

It is better if you can point them directly to your static html page for a couple of reasons - this goes for forums as well.

1] If your comment on another blog or forum encourages a reply comment it gives you the opportunity to continue the conversation adding new readers to your information and more link juice to your static html page.

2] If your comment on another blog or forum encourages readers to come to your own blog to continue the conversation - then you are introducing the new commenter to your own readers and if it encourages more conversation then they are getting your link juice to whatever they are promoting.

I use my blog to keep people updated to what is happening on my static html pages and a chance to interact if they choose. The feed back on my blog has been helpful in gaining the trust of prospective customers to whatever I promote on my static html site as well.

Hope this info helps.

Cheers,

Kitty.

What made me think about blog to blog was the fact that I was using google blog engine to search for sites on which to comment. Thus I should have a blog to get similar visitors. I have noted forums in the google blog list which pleases me as I'm more of a forum than a bog guy.

I think I'll make bogs for my main products, but keep the static pages as well. Per your advice and depending on the topic I'll point them either at the static page or the blog

If you have any more advice or disagree please chime on in

Here's an example of what I'm trying. You're opinion (and others) as always is invaluable.

When I comment, which has been today for my internal energy strikes book I leave this link

http://newbieservices.com/MAForum/index.php/topic,20.msg23.html#msg23

Which at an important point links off to the sales page. I know this gives the option not to click, but it also gives the option to join the forum. If they're bloggers they may enjoy the web 2.0 factor

I don't like the text in the article below the link and am concerned this could affect a buying decision

Opinions?

I see this is an older thread, but I recently came across a PDF that promotes building pages instead of posts on your WP blog site. You put your article, or other content, on the page, and use your post to link to the page.

The author claims this method gets more SE love.

Comments can be added to any RESOLVED questions, under the Best Answer, using the Comment icon shown there. To find resolved questions, click 'discover' tab.The problem is nobody gets notification of these comments, so they don't often actually get read.
