GDI and Blogger Question
« on: March 15, 2010, 02:57:22 PM »
Kitty (or anyone else)

You're knowledgeable about gdi http://newbieservices.com/FreeWebSites/index.php/topic,5.msg5.html#msg5

and blogging. Do you know how to point a blogger blog at a subfolder of my gdi domain. When people click http://InHomeTutoringHi.com/Computers I want my blogger to show up but I want the content on my site so I don't want to do a redirect

Hi Rick,
Go into your GDI back office and scroll down to your domain name [on left nav of the page] then click on your domain name.
In the next window set your domain hosting to "basic".
Log out of your back office.

Go to your FTP program [if you don't have one - get one from the http://www.kimbro.net/website_tutorial.html]
Within the FTP file manager set the host to "hosting.ws" without quotes, port 21, and your username and password you got in your welcome message from GDI.

Once you are connected to your GDI hosting account with your FTP right click in the right hand pane and select new folder.
Name this folder anything you want to call your subfolder ie. "blogger", double left click on the subfolder you just created to open the folder.
From the left pane showing the files on your machine select the folder "Computers" and drag it to the right pane.
Once it is fully loaded to the host:
Open the new folder "Computers" now residing in the right pane of your FTP and make sure there is a file within the folder named "index.html" [without Quotes]
If there isn't you will have to rename the opening file to "index.html"[without quotes].

That's it as far as loading your content to your GDI subfolder is concerned.

Once the site is live, you will have to verify the new location with Google analytics and Adsense and reset the publishing and analytics code on your pages accordingly.

Cheers,

Kitty.
