Hi Joe,
I guess another thing to consider when looking at what traffic generation method to use is; what stage your business is at - what type of website you are trying to get traffic to and the age of the website.
As a matter of fact - I now realize that there are a few points here that I have not covered in my Free Website Traffic methods book - so this post will serve as an update.
Firstly; if you are just starting out and about to build your first website - I don't think you can go past my
Free Website Traffic generating methods. Because these methods show you how to set up a new website to maximize the on-page potential for organic traffic from major search engines, right from the start.
People with established sites who were working hard to get traffic without the desired effect ended up rebuilding their sites according to the instructions
in the Free Traffic Methods. Once their on-page optimizations were in place, they were amazed at the influx of traffic that continued to grow, with a lot less effort on their off-page optimization efforts.
Ricks "tweetnsleep" software will certainly save time and effort in off-page optimization efforts.
Now here is an
IMPORTANT UPDATE for the people using my Free Website Traffic methods and anyone who is building backlinks to improve their website rankings.
Many years ago when Google first announced that their algorithms would credit your sites with a popularity vote from other sites who linked to your sites [ie. backlinks or inbound links] - Link farms and paid for backlinks services sprang up like mushrooms.
Googles response was to remove sites from their index that used link farms and paid backlinking services.[They still do].
But what a lot of people don't realize is; although a good backlink score is paramount to climbing in the search engine results - backlinks can make your websites travel backwards in the ranking score. This problem exists due to the original algorithm Google put in place to find and eradicate sites using link farms.
Google engineers figured that if other sites were recommending your site themselves, they would use different anchor text to do so. If the Google spider suddenly found hundreds of identical anchor text phrases leading to your site - this would raise the red flag.
So for instance if you use the same signature file on hundreds of blogs/forums etc. and promote the same anchor text on all your link partners, you may be doing more harm than good in your promotional efforts.
To see if your website/web page is being pointed to by too many identical anchor text backlinks you should check your anchor text phrase popularity in Google search by doing the following:
Let's assume your using the anchor text like this
Kimbro's Study as I do in a lot of my signatures.
To check if I am using this particular anchor text too much, I input the following into Google search bar.
allinanchor:"Kimbro's Study"
If your allinanchor search results in your site - or page in this case - coming up at the top of the results, then do a normal search - in my case for;
Kimbro's Study - note I have removed the quotes from the search phrase.
Well fortunately my page comes up first in normal search results as well - so all is good.
However if my allinanchor search revealed a first position but my normal search would show my page in position number 23, it would indicate to me that I have too many identical anchor text phrases out there and this is harming my rankings.
To fix this I would immediately start to spread some other anchor text for the same page. For instance I could use "Visit My Study Today", "Free Online Study", "24/7 Free Online Study".
In other words don't remove your established anchor text backlinks, rather balance them out with new unique anchor text links.
Remember if your allinanchor results equal the same words [without quotes] in normal search all is well:
example:
1] allinanchor result = #4, normal search = #4. All is Well.
2] allinanchor result= #4, normal search = #20. Unbalanced - add more variety anchor text links.
3] allinanchor result= #4, normal search = #1. You can afford to add some more of the same anchor text links.
I hope I have explained this clearly enough for all to understand.
All the above reasons should help you to understand why automated submission programs and automated reciprocal linking programs can do more harm than good. Always fully understand how an automated program of any kind works before using it. I have never come across an automated program vendor that warns of the pitfalls of using their programs - even the very expensive ones. I am sure they are aware of these pitfalls and the harm they can do. It has even crossed my mind - conspiracy theory!!! - perhaps they are trying to get rid of the competition and getting paid for it as well?
Or maybe they are just happy to get rid of the competition - that's when they give you access to their auto bots for free - very generous indeed!!
Cheers,
Kitty.
