How To Copy and Paste
« on: October 04, 2009, 04:51:50 PM »
Q. I'm a raw beginner and am trying to follow instructions but I do not know how to copy and paste.
can you tell me how to do this?

A. The most common and versatile function in general operations is selecting objects or text then copying  / pasting to another location.

These two sets of shortcuts work together to select one or many objects or a body of text then copy and paste the selection to another location

Selection Shortcuts

SELECT ALL - Ctrl + A - will select everything in the current windows or the current context.

SELECT MULTIPLE - Hold the Ctrl key while you left click on each object with the mouse.

SELECT A GROUP - left click to select the first object in the group, then hold Shift key and left click the last object in the group.

Mouse option - To select with a sweep of the mouse, Left click and hold the button then move mouse to end of selection and release the held button.

Copying shortcuts

COPY - Ctrl C – starts a copy (copy’s the object leaving the original intact)

CUT - Ctrl X – starts a cut (moves the item removing the original once it is relocated)

PASTE - Ctrl V  – completes a copy or cut to where the active cursor is

Mouse option - Right click to bring up cut / copy / paste options.

Remember these options can be used anywhere you can highlight an object or text.

SPECIAL TIP - Keystrokes often work even when the mouse does not offer the option!!

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Kitty.
